A nun went to Beijing to ask for money because she wanted to make  a statue of Buddha. For many days, no one gave her any money. Then a strange man came up to her. He was dressed in rags and he talked to himself all the time.

I’ve watched you for several days, he said. No one has given you any money  yet. I’ll give you all of mine.  He gave her two very small coins. Soon after this, other people gave her money.

I’ve collected enough money for the statue, he thought.

Then she went home and gave the money to some workman. They bought some copper to make the statue.

They tried to melt the copper but it did not melt. One of the workmen said ,there is something missing from this copper.

He turned to the nun. You collected a lot of money. Have you given us all of it?

Of course I have, the nun said angrily. Then she remember the strange man’s two coins. I kept these two small coins.

Throw them into the copper, the workman said.

The nun threw the two coins into the copper and it melted. The workmen made a beautiful statue of Buddha.

I was very foolish to forget the smallest gift, the nun said, all gifts are important.
